What Happens When an Asian Man Walks Around NYC Wearing a Romper
Rompers for men have been making the rounds on the Internet, so Vine and Instagram celebrity QPark wanted to do a 10-hour social experiment in New York City to see what all the fuss was about.
Rompers are a popular item of clothing for women, but the one-piece suits have become a new style trend among men thanks to the Kickstarter campaign for RompHim, which has raised more than $360,000, surpassing its $10,000 goal.
“I decided to walk through 3 different neighborhoods in NYC (Washington Heights, Harlem, Times Square) for 10 hours wearing a romper / romphim (as a man),” QPark wrote.
In Washington Heights, the Korean-American social media star received compliments, mostly from women saying, “That’s a nice romper” and teenagers losing their minds.
It’s when QPark decided to get a haircut at a barber shop where things got awkward, with older men asking him, “What planet did you come out of?” while refusing to cut his hair.
He encountered a bit of homophobia after one gentleman told him to say that he “came out of the closet” and suggested he go to Greenwich Village, an area of NYC known for its large gay community.

Harlem was more open to the idea of a male romper, with one woman wanting to take a photo of QPark and calling him “sexy ass sh*t!” after she realized that “he got a muthaf**kin romper on!!”
The gays came in with their full support, checking out and discussing his “cakes”.
No one was more excited, however, than the folks in Times Square.
“Oh sh*t! My n*gga in the romper! Oh you’re the first n*gga!” one guy said as he came up to QPark and greeted him.
Love it or hate it, QPark can indeed rock a romper.
And a reminder: you can wear whatever the hell you want!
