Today is World Tetris Day, a global celebration of the ageless puzzle game created by Russian computer engineer Alexey Pajitnov in the 1980s.

Lots of people are familiar with Tetris, but not nearly as many are aware of how it came to exist on the world stage. Remember: when the game was first created, Russia was still the Soviet Union and the "Cold War" was still very much in play.

The twists and turns that led to The Tetris Company founder and managing director Henk Rogers finding distribution for the game is filled with all the surprises, tense moments, and intrigue that you'd expect from spy fiction.
