CAN IDRIS JALA BE ‘INDEPENDENT’ FROM NAJIB’S INTERESTS? ‘WISE’ MOVE FOR NAJIB, BAD CHOICE FOR FELDA SETTLERS
PUTRAJAYA – The government’s move to appoint an independent party to look into the Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd has received a thumbs up from its suspended group president and chief executive officer.
Datuk Zakaria Arshad (pix) described the move by the government as wise as the independent party would be impartial in its investigation.
“I welcome this initiative because those who look into this will not have any leaning.
” Furthermore, if the probe is by done from inside, it will only put my staff in a spot,” he said.
The Prime Minister’s Office announced the appointment of former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala as the independent party to establish the facts of the case and recommend the way forward regarding the decision by FGV board to suspended Zakaria and three others after consultation with all relevant parties.
Earlier, Zakaria spent four hours giving his statement to the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission.
The anti-graft body is looking into alleged improprities involving the FGV.
On Tuesday, Zakaria and three other FGV officers were asked to take indefinite leave of absence, which FGV chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad said was a decision made by the entire board.
The other three are FGV chief financial officer Ahmad Tifli Mohd Talha FGV Trading chief executive officer Ahmad Salman Omar and Delima Oil Products senior general manager Kamarzaman Abd Karim.
