U.S. Army Brats in South Korea Get Drunk, Assault Four Korean Adults in One Day
Three American teens in South Korea have been arrested for assaulting four older locals, including a 50-year-old taxi driver, in a single day.
The series of assaults happened on May 23, one of which took place at 2 a.m. near Sogang University in Seoul. One of the victims reported a broken nose and knocked out teeth.
The teenagers, all drunk, are children of U.S. forces in South Korea, The Korea Times reported. One was reportedly living in Korea, while the other two were on summer vacation.
Laurri Garcia, spokeswoman for the Yongsan U.S. Army Garrison in Seoul, confirmed that the teenagers, one aged 17 and two aged 16, were USFK dependents. Only one admitted to the violent acts.
“We are aware of an incident in Hongdae on the 23rd. We’re cooperating thoroughly with the (Korean police) to ensure that the matter is taken seriously,” Stripes quoted Garcia as saying.
The teenagers first picked a fight with two adult Koreans after bumping shoulders accidentally, as per the police report.
Later at 3 a.m., they assaulted another man near Hongkik University just because he did not know the location of the nightclub they asked. A 50-year-old taxi driver then intervened and got assaulted, too.
The teenagers were taken into custody and prevented from leaving the country as investigations continue.
